It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post. I’ve missed you all! Today, I want to talk about the reason for my brief absence and share what I’ve been working on lately.
We all know that mom life can get extremely overwhelming. Just between yourself and your kids, there is so much to be done. Add in a significant other, a home, maybe a pet, school, a job… So many responsibilities, so little time. It seems as if we are drowning in to do lists that never end.
So how do you get the most out of the day and also keep your sanity intact?
Two words: Time management.
As I said earlier, this is something I’ve been working on. Fall semester has started, I have a part time job and, of course, I run this blog. I haven’t mastered the art of time management quite yet but I have noticed definite improvement. I feel better and much more accomplished every day. It can be difficult to get used to, especially if you normally just wake up and go, but it gets easier by the day. Check out these 8 steps to help manage your time more effectively.
I also have a super sweet giveaway for you at the end of this post, so don’t miss out!
| O N E | Get Organized
I recently came across the idea of bullet journaling and it is a time management must have for me. It is described as, “a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less.” You can also use a planner. Either way, writing things down will help you get (and stay) organized. You are less likely to forget things when you write them down and if you do forget, you can always look at your schedule to be reminded.
| T W O | Get An Early Start
If you are not a morning person, you’ve got to become one. Try to spend the first 30 mins of your morning reviewing what needs to be done for the day and think about how you are going to utilize your time. Life is just so much smoother when you have a clear plan of action.
| T H R E E | Sleep
Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the next day. If you over work yourself and don’t get enough rest, it sets the tone for the next day and slows everything down. You also will have more trouble getting an early start if you don’t get enough sleep to begin with.
| F O U R | Focus
Unplug from the world until you are done with the task at hand. Set your phone to do not disturb, turn off the TV and really focus on finishing what you’re working on. Learn how to say no to the things that distract you.
| F I V E | Prioritize
Figure out what tasks are most important and make it your mission to complete those first. It also helps to determine what needs to be done vs what you want to get done. For example, don’t check and respond to emails if you have a paper you need to turn in the next day. Paper first, emails second.
| S I X | Start Small
Sometimes the reason it takes so long to get something done is because we try to tackle the project from start to finish. We get really tired or bored of it half way through and regard the task as mundane. The way to avoid that is to split up your time; work for a set amount of time, take a break, go back to work. It also helps to break one task into multiple… narrowing your focus to something more “do-able” and not daunting can really change your outlook on finishing.
| S E V E N | Wear A Watch
In the age of technology, we have become very dependent on checking our phones for the time. We check the time and before you know it we’ve been on Facebook for 20 minutes. When I started wearing a watch, I realized how much my phone affected my productivity.
Speaking of watches…If you’re in the market for a unique watch, either for yourself or as a gift, I recommend getting one from JORD Wood Watches. When they approached me and asked if I’d like to try out one of their watches, I looked through the site and almost immediately agreed. A cool watch for the Cool Mom? How could I say no?
JORD is a company that believes “moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.” They carry both men and women’s watches. I had a really hard time choosing but ultimately ended up with the Purpleheart and Mother of Pearl from the “Cora” series.
Isn’t it just gorgeous? All of their time pieces are made from unique wood and sapphire glass, which is an extremely durable and scratch resistant material.
I loved the watch so much, I teamed up with JORD to bring my readers this AMAZING giveaway! The winner will receive $75 towards any time piece, and the “losers” will receive $20. So no matter what, everyone wins! JORD will notify all winners through email. What are you waiting for?? Click on the link below to enter.
